Ask not, receive not

SCRIPTURE: “For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.” –D&C 58:26. [source]

ARTICLE OF FAITH: “We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.” –Article of Faith 9. [source]

COMMENTARY: Remember, kids, as you are entering general conference weekend, that your prophet doesn’t believe his job is to ask Jesus what He wants done. He believes he has sufficient revelation for his needs and that if Jesus is bothered by something, it’s up to Jesus to make an effort to let him know. Of course, that’s exactly the opposite of how things have worked in the entire history of the church, but I’m sure it’ll work out great for Monson this weekend. If he ever changes his mind, though, I’ve got a few suggestions of things he could consider asking. • Why should we continue to bar women from the priesthood? • Is there anything you can tell us about our Heavenly Mother? • Is it really your desire for us to continue to discriminate against gays? • Should we send missionaries out to preach the gospel before we have taught them the truth about the church’s problematic history? • What do you think about our new policy forbidding children with gay parents from joining the church? . . . But what do I know? I’m just another apostate.
