How to doubt

CHURCH ESSAYS: “Recognizing that today so much information about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can be obtained from questionable and often inaccurate sources, officials of the Church began in 2013 to publish straightforward, in-depth essays on a number of topics. The purpose of these essays, which have been approved by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, has been to gather accurate information from many different sources and publications and place it in the Gospel Topics section of LDS.org, where the material can more easily be accessed and studied by Church members and other interested parties.” –from the introduction to a number of essays in which the church admits to information that had previously been popularly considered “anti-Mormon lies.” [source]

COMMENTARY: The best way to doubt something is to research the truth about it. So if you have doubts about the church and your church leaders ask you to doubt your doubts, you should do as much research as possible about those doubts so that you can firmly put them to rest. Two great starting places are cesletter.com and lds.org/topics/essays, where you can learn for yourself that your doubts about the church are well-founded. But what do I know? I’m just another apostate.
