Straight outta my hat

straight outta my hat

CHURCH ESSAY: “Joseph’s wife Emma explained that she ‘frequently wrote day after day’ at a small table in their house in Harmony, Pennsylvania. She described Joseph ‘sitting with his face buried in his hat, with the stone in it, and dictating hour after hour with nothing between us.’” -Book of Mormon Translation, Gospel Topics section of LDS.org. COMMENTARY: The entire story of the translation of the Book of Mormon is ludicrous to anyone who looks at it with even a modicum of critical thinking. I suppose, though, that if you’re already gullible enough to believe in a six-day creation, a talking snake, and a piece of fruit that imparts knowledge merely with its eating, it’s not that big a stretch to believe that divine translation is facilitated by a stone in the bottom of a hat. But what do I know? I’m just another apostate.
