SCRIPTURE: “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” –Matthew 22:36-40. COMMENTARY: If you take a look at what beliefs, doctrines, and practices are actually important in the Mormon lived experience, you’ll find that Jesus is less important than Joseph Smith, and love is less important than a rigid adherence to perplexing and dubious moral standards. It’s time for the Mormon church to live the two great commandments. Love God. Love your fellow human being. You can’t show that love by excommunicating people and refusing to bless and baptize their children. But what do I know? I’m just another apostate.
