QUOTE: “We are not unmindful of the fact that there is a growing tendency, particularly among some educators, as it manifests itself in this area, toward the breaking down of race barriers in the matter of intermarriage between whites and blacks, but it does not have the sanction of the Church and is contrary to Church doctrine.” -First Presidency (George Albert Smith, J. Reuben Clark, Jr., David O. McKay), in a letter to Dr. Lowry Nelson, 17 July 1947. [source]
COMMENTARY: There are too many examples in the history of the church where following the prophets has resulted in oppression for me to believe that they speak for God. Oppression of blacks, oppression of women, and oppression of gays just doesn’t seem to me the kind of thing God would do. Study church history for yourself, and you too can stay home on Sunday. But what do I know? I’m just another apostate.
