“Sister __________, under proper authority, the Garment placed upon you is now authorized and is to be worn throughout your life. It represents the Garment given to Eve when she was found naked in the Garden of Eden, and is called the Garment of the Holy Priesthood. Inasmuch as you do not defile it, but are true and faithful to your covenants, it will be a shield and a protection to you against the power of the destroyer until you have finished your work on the earth.” -from the LDS Temple Initiatory Ceremony. (The Mormon church wants to keep its temple rites secret, so there is no official Mormon online source for this text. If you have ever been a Mormon, though, and been through the Mormon temple, as I have, you will recognize these words. For everyone else, there is always Google. Or I can save you some time: [source])
COMMENTARY: There is a rather uncomfortable moment after you study Mormon history when you realize the Mormon church isn’t true and that someone tricked you into wearing silly underwear for years. But what do I know? I’m just another apostate.
